Local Vicinity Search

Start searching accessible areas alleyways etc., call your pet constantly and take anything that has a noise that your pet may recognize associated with it i.e. food bowl, bell, squeaky toy etc and bang ring and squeak it all the time, animals have fantastic hearing, so make any noise that your pet is familiar with.

This is where you may regret calling your pet ‘Snufflepuffle’ or some such name, but call his name you must, so bite your lip and get used to it, despite what you may think most people will completely sympathize with you.

You must also listen for your pet, so stop periodically to listen. Take a torch for checking in dark places, cats will go to ground in the most difficult to reach secluded areas, which let’s face it is the purpose of going to ground in the first place, especially if they are frightened or hurt. Look under sheds, through shed windows, in drain pipes, bushes, trees, on roofs, under cars anywhere a cat could possibly fit and especially places you think they couldn't !!

Talk to anybody who will listen, you will be surprised at peoples reactions when they realize that you are not trying to sell them something. Children are especially good at looking for animals, if there is the probability of a small reward, their motivation is endless !!

If your cat has a litter tray then put it at the exit points of your garden, you could even take some litter and sprinkle it around, this may help your pet to smell which way his territory is and he will find his way home by walking upwind.
